Name: David Arakaki Previous Alias: Math Teacher - Moanalua Middle School Goals for Ecell: 1. To help students in learning to become problem solvers and critical thinkers through the use of Robotics. 2. To become better at utilizing technology in the teaching and learning process. Why Robotics? Robotics is as powerful a tool in developing teamwork and problem solving skills as I have ever seen. Students at the middle school level especially, thrive on the hands-on learning that they are able to participate in, and they are genuinly interested in learning about the many different kinds of robots that we see everyday. By building models of elevators, automatic doors, washing machines and other common robotic mechanisms, students gain an understanding of how each mechanism works, and this tends to spark their interest in the technology around them. It is a way for the students to learn without realizing it. |
Name : Randy Kiriu Experience : Math Teacher for 12 years at Moanalua Middle, 1st time ECELLer Why ECELL ? I can see the students using problem solving in a setting where they are driven to find an answer. The kids are working cooperatively and collaboratively to solve practical problems. Seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of the students when they find a solution is the best! Also Important: I am gaining experience with working with technology in the classroom's setting. This class has given me the opportunity to gain insights in webpaging, i-movie, digital pictures, popmail, in addition to learning about the types of robotics found in our lives. |
